The letters A to Z have each been allocated a different number between 1 and 26. The number next to each word in this list is the sum total of the letter values in that word. So, for example, in PAU, P might equal 21, A 4 and U 14, or P might be 9, A 7 and U 23, or any other combinatio­n adding up to 39.
