Geordie’s a shore thing!

-

JUMP racing is back in the spotlight today, although the Sodexo Gold Cup at Ascot has attracted a small field as a result of the weather.

It’s a three-mile chase which traditionally has gone to the less exposed horses in the field and the strongest trends relevant today are: ■ Aged 10 or younger. ■ Won over at least 2m 4f. ■ Carry 11st 3lb or less.

That leaves us with a shortlist of Geordie Des Champs, Too Many Diamonds, Solighoster and Play The Ace.

The latter has been beaten from around today’s mark and needs a personal best at a fairly advanced age today.

Too Many Diamonds looks plenty high enough in the ratings, while Solighoster has form only on softer ground.

That leaves GEORDIE DES CHAMPS who Barry Geraghty (above) has switched from Down Royal to ride.

He will stay today’s trip well and is worth 2pts win at 9-1 with Coral and Ladbrokes.
