My father Victor Arthur Barnes was in the Royal Signals Regiment during the Second World War and was stationed in Montivideo, Uruguay, and other South American countries.

He never talked about his wartime experience to the family, but I remember when he returned he was an amazing husband and father.

He passed away on November 11, 1978, aged 68, having suffered from Motor Neurone Disease for several years. Roberta Jones South Benfleet Essex
