Teacher vote to strike over ‘extras’ insult
THREE education unions will be balloting teachers for strike action over the schools’ funding crisis.
Union leaders were furious at the “little extras” £400million given to education in last week’s Budget and claim there is a £2billion annual shortfall.
The National Education Union, the National Association of Head Teachers and the Association of School and College Leaders will all ask their members to take action.
Kevin Courtney, of the NEU, said £400million “will do nothing to address the cuts or teacher recruitment and retention crisis.” ■ School budgets have been cut by £1.7billion in real terms as funding per pupil has fallen, the Institute of Fiscal Studies says.
