‘Cuts denting faith in police’

-

PUBLIC confidence in the police has been “severely dented” by the effects of cuts, a report warns today.

Forces are struggling to keep Britons safe after years of slashed budgets under the Tories, MPs say.

It takes longer to charge suspects, fewer arrests are made and neighbourhood policing has been stripped back, the Public Accounts Committee found.

PAC chairwoman Meg Hillier said: “Public confidence and trust that the police will respond is breaking down.”
