Roman find is 1st for county

ARCHAEOLOGISTS may have found Britain’s most south-westerly Roman town under a building site.

Experts are excavating timber dwellings on a road leading to a Roman fort in Okehampton, Devon.

They said it is the first Roman town, or “vicus”, to be excavated in the county.
