Menace of the email grabbers
Data theft will be behind every scandal for the next few years. One of the first straws in the wind is the £135,000 fine for Brexit campaigner Arron Banks’ insurance firm and Leave.EU. Not only did these two organisations grab emails of everyone who expressed an interest – they illegally shared them, meaning 300,000 insurance customers were sent ads for Brexit and a million Brexiters were sent insurance offers.
While we wait for MPs to enter the 21st century and legislate against this sort of abuse, we’ll have to be more careful – give them the email address of someone you don’t like.
