Javid’s £17m to divert kids from gangs

-

PROJECTS to stop youngsters turning to crime or gangs are to get £17.7million over two years.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid aims to reach children early with the money and steer them into jobs or education, and give support to their families.

Mr Javid said: “Early intervention is at the heart of our strategy.

“This money will fund projects diverting vulnerable youngsters and those who have already offended away from crime.”

The cash will go to 29 schemes, 10 in London, backed by Police and Crime Commissioners.

Ministers are under pressure to tackle spiralling violent crime, with focus on the capital after a spate of fatal stabbings.
