Brits held as baby left on ward in Spain

SCENE The hospital A BRITISH couple who allegedly abandoned a newborn baby in hospital have been arrested in Spain.

Police said the woman was still wearing her patient gown when she was tracked down in a village 15 miles away.

The hospital in Antequera, 30 miles north of Malaga, alerted police when the woman vanished on Thursday after giving birth overnight.

The pair, who are believed to live in Spain, were arrested in Fuente de Piedra.

A spokesman for Spain’s National Police said: “Officers have arrested a British man and woman on suspicion of a crime of child abandonment.”

No one from Antequera Hospital was available for comment yesterday.
