deserves to be celebrated as England’s record goalscorer and it’s great that he will get a farewell appearance next week.

But it must NOT be at the expense of Callum Wilson making his international debut after the Bournemouth striker worked so hard to overcome two cruciate knee ligament injuries to earn his call-up.

It would be completely wrong if Rooney made a 10-minute cameo as substitute, Wilson was left on the bench... and somehow never got another England chance.
