Forever in their debt
WE shall never forget to pay our respects to the brave men and women who died in wars so we are free, as long as people are ready to join a two-minute silence and wear their poppies with pride.
Yesterday’s services, marking the centenary of the end of the First World War, represented the very best of Britain in bringing together so many people in a solemn act of remembrance.
We are a country bitterly divided on so many current issues – not least Brexit, which split families, communities and workplaces.
Yet we are, thankfully, united in our compassion and respect for those who never grew old, or those who suffered often horrendous wounds in military conflicts.
Be they soldiers, sailors, airmen or civilians, each and every person from wherever in the world who served our country must always be appreciated.
We must forever repay our debt of honour.
