100 YEARS AGO (1918) Our front page images showed Londoners celebratin­g the end of the First World War and King George V’s appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. 91 YEARS AGO (1927) Russian revolution­ary Leon Trotsky was expelled from the Communist Party over a failed campaign against Joseph Stalin. He was assassinat­ed in 1940. 34 YEARS AGO (1984) Tory Chancellor Nigel Lawson announced the £1 note would be withdrawn after 150 years and replaced with a £1 coin. It ceased to be legal on March 11, 1988.

A red and a blue ship collided... the survivors were marooned. Ocean’s 8 star Anne Hathaway is 36. She is named after Shakespear­e’s wife. First Man star Ryan Gosling is 38. His childhood nickname was Trouble. Musician Neil Young is 73. He had polio as a child. Former ice skater Tonya Harding is 48. She was played by Margot Robbie in the film I, Tonya. And many happy returns to Daily Mirror reader Liam Prodger from Worcester who turns 21 today.
