£4.7k for 1st Starman disc

-

A PROTOTYPE recording of David Bowie’s breakthrough 1972 hit Starman fetched £4,700 at auction.

His manager handed the acetate disc from Trident Studios, in London, to his secretary to type up the lyrics and she kept it.

She sold the recording at Bishop and Miller of Stowmarket, Suffolk, on Saturday, for more than twice its estimate.

Managing director Oliver Miller said: “This was one of the standout lots in our music auction.”
