- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

ARSENAL striker Danny Welbeck may already have played his last game for Arsenal following ankle surgery.

Welbeck went under the knife after suffering a broken ankle against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League on Thursday.

The former Manchester United star now faces a fight to play again this season and may even have played his last game in a Gunners shirt as his contract is up next summer.

Manager Unai Emery said: “Danny Welbeck’s injury is a big injury. It is a broken ankle and he had an operation on Friday. He won’t be with us for a long time.”

Gunners, who fell behind early on yesterday, were lucky to escape with a point thanks to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s late leveller and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo said his Premier League new boys should be proud of their performance.

Santo said: “To be able to say we could compete with a very good team like Arsenal shows how we are working, how we want to play, how we want to do things.

“We should be proud. Let’s enjoy this moment, this happiness and strive for more.”
