EMERY HAILS LENO FOR SAVING POINT

-

FROM FRONT PAGE just a consolation thanks to Leno’s heroics in goal.

The recalled Germany international produced a string of saves before and after the Armenian struck to earn Arsenal a point.

And Emery said: “We knew that we needed the goalkeeper with his performance, because when we are taking risks in our attacking moments, and giving them options in the transitional moments we would need the goalkeeper. I thought his performance was good for us.”

Arsenal trailed to Ivan Cavaleiro’s 13th-minute opener and Leno kept Wolves at bay for the rest of the half before producing a huge save to stop Diogo Jota killing Arsenal off two minutes before Mkhitaryan’s leveller.

Summer signing Leno then denied Adama Traore (above) what would have been a dramatic injury-time winner.

Emery said: “We needed to take more risks in the match. We also continued to look for ways to create and to win the game, but then we drew.

“In the last five or 10 minutes, we had the same idea with the risk, but also thinking to win. At the end of the game we could say, ‘OK, the two teams both deserved it’.”

Arsenal almost paid the price against Wolves for yet another slow start and Emery admitted: “Maybe it’s one thing we can improve, but that comes naturally in our work.”
