BOTTLE OF CLARETS

- BY MIKE WALTERS

LET’S hear it for Burnley, too. On and off the pitch, they were impeccable guests at a memorial service.

They competed honestly for a hard-earned point, and Clarets fans observed the finer points of diplomacy with exemplary decorum.

Skipper Jack Cork was also relieved to stop the haemorrhage of 13 goals Burnley had leaked in three games with a gritty clean sheet. He said: “We didn’t want to turn up and roll over.

“We’d had three bad weeks conceding too many goals and we wanted to get back to being hard to beat.

“It was never going to be easy against Manchester City, Chelsea and West Ham away.

“But there was a determination to put it right and have something to show from a block of four games.”
