FLASHING speed limit signs for cyclists have gone up at a busy promenade.

The bike-activated signs spot riders going above 10mph and flash up the limit in a bid to cut accidents with pedestrians.

Three of the £3,000-atime devices on Bournemouth’s seven-mile seafront have been paid for by the local council.

The fourth is funded by the beach hut owners’ group which said some riders “absolutely fly by”.

The council said: “The signs help ensure the promenade is safe for all.”

But charity Cycling UK said the cash would be better spent tackling a few troublemakers “rather than vilifying all cyclists”.

Stanley went to work as an assistant at Timely Comics in 1939. By the time he entered the US Army in 1942 he was interim editor. After the war he wrote romance, Westerns, sci-fi and horror for the firm, but in the late 1950s he was asked to create a superhero team in response to rival DC Comics’ Justice League of America.

He and artist Jack Kirby came up with the Fanastic Four, leading to the creation of the characters still loved today. The firm became Marvel, and Lee became publisher in 1972. But their relationship would later falter. A year after he started POW! Entertainment in 2001, he sued Marvel for royalties he said he was owed for the first Spider-Man movie. He settled for £7.8million.

Last year he was accused of sexual misconduct by massage therapist Maria Carballo, who said he “began to fondle himself ” when she was sent to his hotel room in Chicago in April last year. He denied her allegations.
