It’s a stretch to say Spurs are thriving
I WAS speaking to a Tottenham fan on the way to Crystal Palace on Saturday and he told me they’d been poor this season despite it being their best start points-wise.
He said they appeared a bit flat, lacking in tempo, and from what I saw at the weekend he was right.
They worked hard, they still have great team spirit and quality, but they lacked creativity and looked a bit jaded.
They seemed like a team which is stretching and the injuries they are suffering seems to be backing that up.
It’s as if Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino (above) is pulling on a really thin piece of elastic and the tension point is at 90 per cent.
There isn’t much more wriggle room before they go on a poor run or suffer a couple more key injuries.
What I’d like to see in January is chairman Daniel Levy releasing the funds for a couple of ‘touchpaper’ players.
Players who will run round and rally the troops, as talismanic winger Steve Stone did for us at Nottingham Forest – players who will get the crowd, their team-mates and the manager going.
