These rogues are clever and keep coming up with sophisticated scams that even experts find hard to spot.
New figures reveal that criminals stole £500million in the first six months of this year alone – that’s almost £2.8million every single day.
A chunk of that stolen money, £145million, was taken by thieves persuading people to transfer cash into dodgy bank accounts – but only £31million of that was actually refunded to victims.
Banks and financial firms do not refund victims of all financial fraud.
And many families are left penniless and struggling with no way to ever get their money back.
It is vital we all do everything we can to keep our hard-earned cash in our own pockets and safe from financial fraudsters.
