Ban call over sugar-laden milkshakes
MILKSHAKES in popular restaurants can contain up to 39 teaspoons of sugar and should be outlawed, say campaigners.
Action on Sugar found a Toby Carvery Unicorn Freakshake had 1,280 calories and as much sugar as four cans of regular Coke.
It also measured 37 teaspoons in a banana and chocolate shake from burger chain Five Guys.
And some 90% of supermarket shakes had high levels of sugar.
The group wants a 300 calorie cap on the treats.
Chairman, Professor Graham MacGregor, said: “That is not acceptable.”
Toby Carvery said: “Freakshakes only feature on our main menu and are not targeted at children.”
No one from Five Guys was available for comment.
