24hrs to halt web dangers

SOCIAL media may have to remove harmful content in 24 hours or face legal action in moves to protect children, a minister said.

Digital Minister Margot James said the Government aimed to follow Germany, where tech giants face fines.

And Mental Health Minister Jackie Doyle-Price told MPs that firms were failing over cyber bullying.

She told the Science and Technology Committee: “They could do a lot more, I think they’re being very slow in this area actually.”
