NOTORIOUS lag Charles Bronson accused a prison governor of telling “porky pies” about his alleged attack on him.

The violent 66-year-old also claimed there was no way he would have threatened to bite Mark Docherty’s nose off as he is a vegetarian.

And he mocked the jail boss’s injuries as “nursery school” grazes, telling him he was “embarrassing”.

Bronson, now known as Charles Salvador, allegedly lunged at Mr Docherty after bosses at HMP Wakefield refused to release snaps of his jail wedding to

Paula Williamson,

37, last November.

The court yesterday heard Mr Docherty’s injuries included whiplash.

But Bronson said he was only trying to give him a “gentle bear hug” and whisper in his ear: “Where’s my wife’s photos?”

Bronson, representing himself, sucked Fisherman’s Friend sweets as he cross-examined witnesses.

He accused the governor of telling a “porky pie” several times, saying he went back on his word by not releasing pictures to his bride. He told Mr Docherty: “You’ve also said a porky pie today. What happened to the contract for the photos? You lied to my wife, you lied to me.”

Asking about the whiplash, he said: “Are you having a laugh? Children in a nursery had worse injuries. Grazes on elbows and knees. I think you are trying to pull wool over people’s eyes.” Claiming the injuries were “little bruises”, he added: “You’re a full-grown man – come on, it’s embarrassing.” The former prize fighter then demonstrated his punching, saying: “In three seconds I could hit a man 10 times. If I had done it I could have hit you 20 times.” Bronson also described himself as an “honest man” and pointed out he has never killed, adding: “I can assure you I have never bitten anyone’s nose off in my life – plus I’m a vegetarian.” He later crossexamined prison officer Steven Coomber, who admitted it was “possible” Mr Docherty’s injuries were caused as staff tried to get the lag off. Bronson, serving life at HMP Frankland in County Durham for robbery and kidnap, denies attempted GBH. The Leeds crown court trial continues. Prison boss Docherty
