Passenger jet missed flying object by 25ft
A THOMAS Cook jet carrying up to 220 passengers came within 25ft of hitting a mystery object as it tried to land, a report says.
The Airbus A321 was at a height of 900ft when it narrowly avoided a collision before arriving at Birmingham airport.
The pilot said “some sort of balloon or drone” passed “directly beneath” the flight from Mallorca on July 14 this year, estimating it was just 25ft away.
The UK Airprox Board, which investigates near misses, said the aircraft was travelling at around 150mph just over three miles from the airport.
If it was a drone, it was at more than twice the 400ft legal altitude limit.
Endangering an aircraft with a drone can lead to a five-year jail sentence.
