NEW KIDS & THE DJOK

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

NOVAK DJOKOVIC showed the old guard still rule the young guns by blitzing Alexander Zverev at The O2. After Roger Federer dismissed Dominic Thiem on Tuesday, the world No.1 (below) thrashed the German prospect 6-4 6-1 in another one-sided contest at the Nitto ATP World Tour Finals.

For the first time ever in men’s tennis, there are no Grand Slam singles winners under the age of 30.

And Djokovic ruthlessly confirmed that the young pretenders are not ready to break the domination of the golden generation. “It seems it’s harder nowadays to make that breakthrough, to win your first Slam, as a teenager than it was 20, 30, 40 years ago,” said Djokovic. “There is a lot of quality in the new generation, it just takes a bit more to find that extra level to win Slams.”
