22mths’ jail for mobility scooter thug
SENTENCED Aaron Ali A DISABLED man who used a mobility scooter “as a battering ram” to knock over two elderly ladies has been jailed for 22 months.
A judge said it was remarkable former nurse Aaron Ali, 40, did not cause serious injury mowing down Doris Collins, 88, and Joan Benjafield, 90.
He had driven off a bus at a stop where they were waiting then reversed into each in turn, leaving them with cuts and bruises.
Judge Emma Goodall said: “This was disgraceful conduct that could have had serious and longlasting consequences.”
Ali, of Thamesmead, South London, said he had a diabetic collapse during the incident in Welling.
He was found guilty at Southwark crown court of assault causing ABH.
