6 Specially Selected All Butter Sloe Gin Mince Tarts, £2.49, Aldi

Flat shaped but the pretty lattice work, scattering of flaked almonds and golden colour made them look expensive. The crumbly pastry was melt-inthe-mouth lovely, and the subtle sloe gin flavour was complimented by the nuts and gave us both a warm glow. Verdict: Gin-gle bells ★★★★★
