A WIFE who repeatedly tried and failed to get her dying husband killed has been convicted of a murder plot.

Cheating Hayley Weatherall, 32, set out to get rid of cancer sufferer Ray with her lover and his transgender daughter.

Unsuspecting Ray, 53, survived being shot in the face and burned in a swimming pool heater explosion.

And the plotters also considered giving him a fatal cocktail of pills and insulin or throwing him off a boat.

Jurors had heard the trio were “not accomplished” and that their plans were “neither precise nor effective”.

Yesterday they found Weatherall, 32, guilty of conspiracy to murder with Glenn Pollard, 49, and his only child Heather, 20, who lives as a man called Arthur.

Sentencing on all three was adjourned as a judge said they had been convicted on “compelling” evidence.

Earlier prosecutor Simon Taylor had told Kent’s Maidstone crown court it was “irrelevant” their plans did not succeed.

The trial had heard how Weatherall embarked on a “mission” to rid herself of garage boss Ray, a diabetic dad of seven, after he was given 18 months to live in 2016 because of brain tumours.

She and Pollard, who she began an affair with after meeting him at a family funeral, decided he was “in the way”. Ray was shot at Sandwich Marina by a bullet which passed through his cheeks, throat and part of his skull. Heather’s car was in the area but she claimed she was having sex with a stranger.

In the month around the shooting Weatherall and Pollard exchanged 2,310 texts and calls. Even as Ray was in hospital Weatherall messaged her lover saying: “They didn’t do a very good job, did they?” To which Pollard replied: “I’m not paying him the full amount”. Ray also suffered seconddegree burns in the heater blast at his home. The trial heard the plotters also considered insulin and drowning as ways of killing Ray has survived his cancer and gave evidence during the trial. The trio, all from the Canterbury area, were remanded in custody until Tuesday.
