THE MINISTERS WHO LEFT

-

DOMINIC RAAB (Brexiteer)

When David Davis quit in July, Raab stepped in as Brexit Secretary. The ex-Foreign Office lawyer and karate black belt, 44, first became a minister in 2015. Insiders claimed his Brexit role was ceremonial, with the real negotiating done by the PM’s Europe adviser, Olly Robbins.

SUELLA BRAVERMAN (Brexiteer)

SHE had been tipped to resign as a Brexit Minister for weeks.

A former chairwoman of the Tories’ hard-Brexit European Research Group, she previously said no-deal would be “great” for UK.

Barrister Braverman, 38, is a rising star among the hardcore of Leavers.

ESTHER MCVEY (Brexiteer)

McVey, 51, joined the Cabinet as Work and Pensions Secretary in January, dealing with the Universal Credit row. She didn’t back the Chequers pact and it was no shock when she walked out. Combative, divisive and controversial, rivals dubbed her “Esther McVile”.

SHAILESH VARA (Remainer)

Tae Kwon Do black belt Vara, 58, became a Northern Ireland Minister in January after roles at the Ministry of Justice and Department of Work and Pensions. He was named the official “rising star” of the 2000 Tory Party conference, and won the West Cambs seat in 2005.
