Dear Donny
Q I have two radiator covers made 20 years ago. I recently redecorated and removed the centre “metal” decorative panels, but I can’t get replacements. Can you help? Helen Yates, by email A Try decorativemesh.co.uk. I’m sure you’ll find something you like and it could be cut to size by a grinder with a metal disc attached. Q We have condensation on our triple-glazed bedroom window. The room is ventilated. Would it help if we insulated the walls? And if so how? William Carter, by email A With a triple-glazed window working properly the only condensation I would expect would be morning dew on the outside. If walls are showing signs of dampness you could try insulated plasterboard. Q My outer wall has been badly stained by two dead hostas. How can I remove it?
John Burrows, by email A Leave the wall until bone dry then give it a buff with a wire brush. Don’t use water.
Q How do I lift old Karndean floor tiles to put some new flooring down?
J Graham, Dumfries A
I had a full house fitted with them and I’m sure the fitters used a heat gun to soften the glue – just not close enough to scorch the tiles. Q
We have two marks on our three-month old £950 rosewood composite door. A rosewood scratch pen just dried lighter and looks awful. Can you help?
Kathy Conroy, by email A
Even professionals can’t guarantee they’ll remove them. For scratches I use coloured wax sticks melted together to get a match. Fill the scratch and then level with a sharp knife.
