Austin fury was bridge too VAR

-

I THINK it’s right that the Premier League are bringing in VAR from next season.

I was against it early on, but when you see how much it means to players – just look at Charlie Austin (above) after his disallowed goal last Saturday – it’s clear we need to get these decisions right.

Too many big calls are costing teams. Referees have a very difficult job, so why not give them all the assistance we can?

Even the Raheem Sterling stuff in the Champions League, with VAR that would have been cleared up straight away.

Where there will still be problems will be on handball decisions because that will still be subjective. And with the minutest offside decisions.

We saw the one for Fulham at Liverpool last weekend. Mark Schwarzer and Michael Owen disagreed over it. One thought it was on and one that it was off.

It would have taken a minute or a minute-anda-half to look at that and try and clear it up.

Those tight calls may take a while to get right, but as long as the outcome is correct, we should be prepared to give it time.

It’s not going to bring perfection overnight, but will mean more correct decisions are made. We should all welcome what is a good decision.
