Paradise lost
Streets of ash as fires in California level entire town
SCORCHED trees stand amid the ash footprints of homes razed by California’s wildfires in what was the town of Paradise.
Blazes across the state have killed at least 63 people, with 600 missing.
And in Paradise, the community faces a total rebuild after the inferno destroyed some 7,000 buildings.
As crews searched debris for victims, Sergeant Steve Collins said: “We feel bad for people who don’t know what happened to loved ones. We want to give them answers.”
Meanwhile, British actor Sir Anthony Hopkins, 80, had a lucky escape when the flames spared his Malibu home while consuming his neighbour’s.
