Force dumps baseball caps meant to encourage transgender recruits

A POLICE force that replaced helmets with baseball caps to “attract transgender recruits” has ditched them after just 18 months.

The decision followed complaints from members of the public and police.

One officer said the reinforced caps “made me look like Jimmy Krankie”.

Another welcomed dumping the caps, saying: “Excellent decision. The standard of dress, uniform and appearance has plummeted over the last decade or so. It’s about time we got back to basics and started looking professional.”

The reinforced caps were introduced last year as Northamptonshire Police said traditional helmets and hats were a “barrier to the non-binary transgender community joining the police service”. Several forces did the same. But Chief Constable PAST ITS PEAK Police cap Nick Adderley, appointed this summer, said the caps were scruffy and did not portray the right image. He said: “I want my officers to look smart and confident to take policing back to the streets. I’m responding to the concerns of our staff and the public and there’s more to come. It’s time to start policing with purpose.”
