Cop’s fury at officer attack
POLICE may let violent criminals go if the public does not “stand up for what is right” and prevent thugs attacking them, a top officer has warned.
Ken Marsh, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, spoke out after onlookers stood by filming officers being assaulted in Merton, South London.
Mr Marsh said: “Society is broken. In the old days the public would jump in.”
■ The Police Federation says plans to link officers’ pay to performance are too “complicated” to work.
