The fake doc allowed to practise for 22 yrs
UP to 3,000 doctors are being checked after a fake psychiatrist was left free to practise for 22 years.
Zholia Alemi, registered in 1995 with fraudulent New Zealand paperwork, was allowed to prescribe medicines and section patients.
Despite being disciplined twice she was only caught out when convicted of trying to fake the will of patient Gillian Belham, 84, in Cumbria.
Until 2003, some Commonwealth medics did not have qualifications tested. Now 3,000 who came in the same route are being probed.
General Medical Council chief executive Charlie Massey said: “These are serious issues and we are investigating them urgently.”
Alemi, consultant psychiatrist for a dementia service in
West Cumbria, was jailed for five years at Carlisle crown court in October this year for her “abhorrent” fraud.
Alemi exploited her relationship with her vulnerable victim, even applying for power of attorney in her name. JAILED Her police mugshot
