Research is out of this world
MATERIALS will be created in space with properties which are impossible to make on Earth.
The UK Space Agency gave £1.3million to the University of Strathclyde for trials.
Marcello Lappa, project head, said: “We’ll investigate how, by shaking a complex fluid in microgravity conditions, we can create materials with structures we can’t make on Earth. This may shed light on mechanisms supporting the formation of asteroids.”
Experiments will be carried out on the International Space Station in 2021.
