Sturr bets case may go mobile

- YOUR CALL BY JOHN CROSS

FA chiefs can demand Daniel Sturridge’s mobile phone records during their betting investigation.

Liverpool striker Sturridge, 29, has until 6pm today to answer a misconduct charge from the FA alleging he has broken their strict gambling rules.

It could centre around whether Sturridge passed on information to family or friends in January 2018 when he moved on loan to West Brom from Liverpool.

Sturridge had been due to move to Newcastle before a last-minute switch to the Hawthorns.

There have also been reports that bets were placed on him going to Inter Milan.

England international Sturridge categorically denies ever placing a bet on football.

But FA rules extend to family and friends acting upon insider information which has been passed on.

The investigation may need to prove whether calls or bets were placed but the FA have refused to comment further other than to confirm the charges.
