Oldest pair celebrate turning 102
BRITAIN’S oldest twins are celebrating their 102nd birthdays today, despite both looking several decades younger.
Identical Phyllis Jones and Irene Crump were born in 1916. They have each other’s names as their middle names and shared their first job at a porcelain factory before marrying.
Irene’s husband Samuel, a farmer, died in 1999 in his 90s and Phyllis’s husband Ray died in 2006, aged 91.
Irene did not have children, but the pair are now cared for by Phyllis’s son.
Carl, 60, said: “I feel very proud of Mum and Aunty Rene. I had to do an online search to confirm it, but Aunty Rene and Mum are definitely the oldest twins in Britain.”
Phyllis has dementia, but Carl said: “Neither of them has arthritis, everything works perfectly.”
The twins live together in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcs, and Carl added: “They are really feisty – they have to be, being sisters and twins.”
