3,000Justice staff not paid ‘proper wage’

-

ALMOST 3,000 Ministry of Justice staff are paid less than the voluntary Real Living Wage, figures reveal.

Campaigners say the workers on under £9 an hour or £10.55 in London cannot afford to live.

Shadow Justice Secretary Richard Burgon said: “The Tories should stop treating workers like dirt and pay them all a proper living wage.”

In total 2,748 directly employed people are affected, including 588 prison and probation staff.

In August, Justice Secretary David Gauke refused to intervene when MoJ cleaners walked out over pay because they were employed by private firms.
