Red letter day for inspired fan of Chase star...

-

A SCHOOLBOY with autism has written a heartwarming letter to I’m A Celebrity star Anne Hegerty after she opened up on national television about the disorder.

Joseph Hughes, 11, from Preston, was diagnosed with autism when he was five and is the Chase star’s biggest fan, says his mum Kate.

He wrote in his letter: “I like to watch you on The Chase and now I have been watching you in the jungle.

“Sometimes people are mean to me because I am autistic but watching you makes me see that other people can have autism too and maybe I can have a cool job like you when I’m older.” On Monday night, Anne spoke honestly about autism with her camp mates Fleur East and Rita Simons. Joseph’s mum Kate, 31, says: “He has wanted to write to Anne for a while.

“He watches The Chase so ever since he realised she has autism he wanted to write her a letter, just to say how much he loves her.

“When we saw she was in the jungle he decided to do it this week.

“He wants her to read it and know how much he loves her.”

Mum-of-four Kate adds: “When he was in mainstream primary school Joseph really struggled socially and didn’t do well with other children.

“But now Joseph is in a specialist school he is thriving. He wants to be an inventor when he grows up.”
