Shock tactics

HANDING every police officer a Taser is as sensible as giving them all handcuffs.

That our brave law enforcers are sent out almost completely unprotected to some pretty mean streets will come as a surprise to many.

Quite rightly, the boys and girls in blue do not ask to routinely bear firearms.

But making a Taser available for every officer who wants one is a simple question of health and safety, to which all workers are entitled.

Failing to give officers the means to protect themselves against violent criminals is a dereliction of the Government’s duty.

They bravely serve. We must protect them.
