Brit Dr Harold Shipman still leads the murder hall of shame

MANCHESTER GP Dr Harold Shipman is the world‘s most prolific murderer outside of war – with 218 proven victims.

Although only convicted of 15 murders in 2000, a two-year inquiry into Dr Death identified as many as

250 victims. Shipman hanged himself in Wakefield Prison in 2004.

Luis Garavito, right, is a child murderer, torture-killer and rapist known as La Bestia (The Beast). He confessed to killing 140 boys of eight to 16 in Colombia and neighbouri­ng countries. He is suspected of murdering over 300 but has 138 confirmed from 1992 to 1999. Colombian Pedro Lopez, known as The Monster of the Andes, has 110 known kills. He targeted girls of eight to

12 and was convicted in 1983 of killing three girls. He was freed in 1998 and his whereabout­s are unknown.

Latvian army deserter Ansis Kaupens killed 90 people and was executed in 1927.

Child and woman killer Daniel Barbosa confessed to 72 victims. He fled prison and started killing in Ecuador. After

his re-arrest in 1986, a nephew of one of his victims killed him in jail. America’s worst serial killer is currently Gary Ridgway, left. The truck painter confessed to killing 71 women, targeting Seattle sex workers.

Suspected of killing over 90, he was convicted of 49 and got life without parole.
