Kante set to be top of the bill at Bridge
N’GOLO KANTE is closing in on a new deal that will make him the highest-paid player at Chelsea.
The Stamford Bridge club are confident the France midfielder (above) will soon put pen to paper on a new five-year contract worth up to £290,000 a week.
Chelsea are determined to keep hold of the former Leicester star, and talks over a new deal were first opened in the summer.
Nothing had been signed
since those talks were first revealed in July though, and with Kante’s current contract, worth £150,000 a week, set to expire in 2021, there was speculation the 27-year-old could depart.
Paris Saint-Germain have been long-time admirers, and Manchester United were linked with Kante this week. But Chelsea have no interest in selling such an important player.
Though Kante’s new deal would make him the Bridge’s top earner, it would be immediately overtaken if Eden Hazard should sign the £300,000-a-week contract he was also offered in the summer.
