Lego Masters, C4 ★★★★

Following the success of the fire pit challenge in this year’s Bake Off final the producers are no doubt thinking about venturing outside the tent again next year.

In which case they should take a look at the epic crazy golf challenge on the new most uplifting show on television, Lego Masters.

Imagine how much fun the bakers would have if they were tasked with creating a fully functioning crazy golf obstacle out of gingerbread. Actually, imagine how much more fun crazy golf would be if you could eat the course once you’ve finished putting.

As amazing as this latest engineering task was, it did rather expose what some viewers claim is a major flaw in this brilliant C4 programme

– having young kids competing against grown-ups.

The bottom two this week consisted of the only all-kids pairings left in the competition.

It wasn’t nice to see Dublin siblings Patrick, 12, and Catherine, 10, in tears as they were sent home.

However, I guess the message is you have to play with the big guys to learn from the big guys.

Plus, it could’ve been worse. They could’ve been made to clear up all the stray bricks before they left or walk across them barefoot and blindfolded.

I’ll miss their imagination, though. When challenged to merge two of their earlier creations – a dog and a turtle – Patrick came up with “a dog in the sitting pose with a turtle’s head.” Genius stuff, Patrick. I would definitely buy one for my mantelpiece.
