Duchess hails Grenfell charity cooks she’s helping raise cash
DUCHESS Meghan greets Grenfell Tower survivor Zaheera Sufyaan like an old friend as she returns to a community project near the scene of the inferno.
The new royal has struck up a close bond with women from a kitchen that makes food for around 200 locals affected by the disaster that killed 72 in June last year.
She has been helping them raise funds to keep the centre open and worked with the group to release a cookbook of 50 recipes.
Since Together: Our Community Cookbook was published seven weeks ago, it has sold 40,000 copies and raised £210,000 for the Hubb Community Kitchen in North Kensington, West London.
Pregnant Meghan told them: “It starts from one idea and from this one idea starts so much. I’m so
HANDS ON Duchess does the cooking proud of you. It hasn’t been a year yet. What you have achieved in that short space of time, it’s really exciting.” Meghan helped the women cook during her latest visit. Zaheera said: “We have bonded really well. She’s down to earth. She’s part of the group. She’s been visiting regularly in secret.” Ahlam Saeid, 61, said of Meghan’s first child expected with Prince Harry: “I told her this is our grandchild, we are so happy.”
