Max school photo shows the ‘power of donation’

-

THE latest school photo of Mirror boy Max Johnson shows the miracle of organ donation, campaigners said yesterday.

The Year Five photo of Max,

10, was published alongside an image of the ailing schoolboy as he waited in hospital for his life-saving heart transplant.

Seen side by side, they show the “unbelievable” difference made by his donor

Keira Ball.

Max had been on the waiting list at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle. He received Keira’s heart, while three others were donated organs by the “loving” schoolgirl who saved or transformed their lives.

“These photos capture the contrast between Max at his sickest and Max as he is now at school,” said his proud mum Emma.

“They do show the power of organ donation. “They look like different boys and we’re very lucky to still have him.”

After almost a year away, Max went back to St Oswald’s CofE Primary School in Worleston, Cheshire, last December, with the school putting out a special “welcome” banner to mark his return.
