IF Kurt Russell with a full-on

Santa beard and jolly good costume can’t get you in the Christmas spirit, then nothing will.

This seasonal adventure, from producer Chris Columbus – the man responsible for Home Alone – is being billed as our next Christmas classic movie.

That’s a mighty big claim, but it does seem to have all the ingredients to merit an annual viewing.

It starts as all good festive movies should – with a happy family, presents being opened, building a snowman and the wearing of tacky matching Christmas jumpers.

But hang on, that was Christmas 2017. A lot has happened since then.

Now it’s Christmas Eve 2018 and 10-year-old Kate (Darby Camp) is making a video letter for Santa.

And her big brother Teddy ( Judah Lewis) has something to tell her. “There is no...” Fortunately, he doesn’t finish his sentence.

Later on, Kate makes a shocking discovery, and the siblings hatch a plan to catch Santa Claus on camera, which results in an unexpected journey.

After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas for everyone.

As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa and his loyal elves to save proceedings before it’s too late.

Hollywood star Kurt is charismatic and funny as the big man in the red suit. And his impressive beard is apparently “80%” his own work.

With laughs and tears, this is a nice schmaltzy film to get you in the festive mood.
