The Reds reluctantly let Philippe Coutinho (below) leave for the Nou Camp in January after a £142m fee was agreed.
But Anfield sporting director Michael Edwards negotiated a clause that stops Barca returning for any more of Liverpool’s best players in the near future without paying a huge penalty. That the Catalan club agreed to the ¤100m (£89m) clause despite their initial objection shows how desperate they were to secure Coutinho’s services in January.
Barca had previously lured Luis Suarez from the Reds in a £75m deal.
