We are so close to a ‘very significant moment’
CAMPAIGN Mr Jarvis with Harry and Emma Johnson AN MP campaigning for the opt-out donor bill to be made into law says the nation is on the verge of a “very significant moment”.
Dan Jarvis has played a vital role in guiding Labour colleague Geoffrey Robinson’s private member’s Bill through Parliament. Mr Jarvis was deeply moved at the Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards three weeks ago as he joined the parents of Keira Ball, who was killed in a road crash aged nine and whose heart was donated to Mirror lad Max Johnson.
Mr Jarvis said yesterday: “The passing of the Bill will be a very significant moment. In 10 years’ time, we will look back with great satisfaction on the fact that thousands of lives have been saved. That makes me enormously proud.
“People will not wonder why we did it but why we never did it sooner.”
The MP for Barnsley Central has also met Max and his family – brother Harry and parents Emma and Paul.
Civil servant Paul said they are praying stricken Oscar Dunkley will receive the transplant he needs.
If the Lords approves the opt-out system it is hoped it will be passed into law in England in the new year.
