Sister Winifred actress hits the big screen in Fantastic Beasts
CALL the Midwife favourite Victoria Yeates has quit the show after trading her wimple for a wand when she landed a film role as a witch.
She plays magical Bunty in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, in cinemas now.
Viewers will see her final scenes as Sister Winifred in Call The Midwife on Christmas Day.
Yesterday Victoria, 35, said: “I have absolutely adored my time on Call the Midwife and leave having made some of my best friends on the show.
“I have been incredibly lucky to have worked with some of the best actresses and actors in the business.
“However, with the opportunity of Fantastic Beasts and all that it entails, it became clear that it was time to hang up Sister Winifred’s wimple and move on to the next adventure.”
HONOUR
In Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, written by Harry Potter author JK Rowling, Victoria plays former Hogwarts pupil Bunty, the assistant to Eddie Redmayne’s magizoologist Newton Scamander.
Victoria said Rowling was “a role model”, and added: “I’ve always been a fan. She’s everything you’d expect – funny, intelligent and warm.”
Giving credit to Call the Midwife writer Heidi Thomas, she added: “It’s such an honour to be working with another great female writer.”
Sister Winifred joined Nonnatus House in 2014 and departs ahead of the eighth series, which starts in January, and is set in 1964.
It features two new midwife nuns to replace Sister Winifred and nurse Barbara Hereward.
Fenella Woolgar joins as jolly Sister Hilda, while Ella Bruccoleri plays the young and inexperienced Sister Frances.
