Song not Strictly live
She’s eternally graceful and genetically blessed with elegance, but Darcey Bussell made an uncharacteristic slight at pop stars who pre-record their Strictly Come Dancing performances.
The show’s judge quipped that prerecorded segments are at the behest of singers themselves during a talk this week.
“The musician that comes in and does the song, they often want to be prerecorded,” she explains.
“I would think: ‘They are a pro. This is what they do.’ But they are like: ‘No, no. We’re going to pre-record that bit.’”
All music acts performing on Sunday shows record performances on a Saturday, when the results are filmed.
Last weekend, Gloria Estefan had to prerecord her Saturday performance in Blackpool for logistical reasons, as it required a lot of choreography.
It normally works out well. Darcey says the pre-records “take the pressure off ” the Strictly pros, who get a bit of a rest.
Meanwhile, Darcey finds it “annoying” when the scandals behind the scenes (aka the best bit) overshadow the dancing.
